04 · Thriving in the Southern Zone

Education & family life

Families thrive here — the outdoor childhood is real — but schooling, healthcare and activities need planning around the Southern Zone’s options.

In this chapter

Options include local public schools (Spanish immersion, free, variable quality), private bilingual schools in the wider region, international-style schools further afield, homeschooling and online programmes. Visit schools in person, ask about class sizes, language support and transport, and talk to other parents before deciding.

Consider the commute honestly: a school forty minutes away means eighty minutes of driving daily, on roads that rain can change. Some families coordinate carpools; others choose location around the school.
